JON HESKETH SIGNS
Jon Hesketh just returned from Safeco Field in Seattle where he signed his first professional baseball contract with the Seattle Mariners and will leave shortly to play for the Pulaski Mariners in Virginia. Jon is one of the hardest working players to ever play in a Blaze uniform and we wish him all the best!
WES DARVILL SIGNS
The Chicago Cubs flew in today and signed Blaze ss Wes Darvill to a professional baseball contract.
Cubs have agreed for Wes to continue with the Blaze and National team tour in Carolina and Cuba and fly to Mesa, Arizona in early July to begin his pro career for the Cubs Arizona Rookie team this summer. Congratulations Wes!
SEVEN (7) BLAZE PLAYERS SELECTED IN THE 2009 MLB DRAFT
-----LHP JAKE ELIOPOLOUS DRAFTED IN THE SECOND ROUND 68th overall by the Toronto Blue Jays. Jake joined and played for the Blaze in Arizona during our annual spring tour in March and became a close friend of the team. Congratulations to Jake and his family!
-----SS WES DARVILL DRAFTED IN THE FIFTH ROUND 170h overall by the Chicago Cubs. Wes has played since he was 14 years old for the Jr Blaze and Sr Blaze as well as the Canadian Jr National team. His hard work has payed off and we congratulate Wes, Mike and Rosalea and brother Tom. Good things do happen to good people!
-----LHP JON HESKETH DRAFTED IN THE TWENTIETH ROUND 593rd overall by the Seattle Mariners. Jon played though the Blaze system from age 14, has been drafted twice before and played last season at Univ of New Mexico. Congratulations to Jon, Terry, Bonnie and family!
-----RHP MIKE MONSTER DRAFTED IN THE TWENTY FIFTH ROUND 749th overall by the Cincinnatti Reds. Mike is a rhp power pitcher transfer to the Blaze from Kelowna Congratulations to Mike, John, Lisa and family!

-Ex Blaze Stosh Wawrzasek picked up his second win in as many outings with four strong relief innings, striking out 4 and allowing no runs to go 2-0 .000 era to start the season for the Maryvale Brewers of the Arizona League. Good job Stosh!

Former Blaze players Brett Lawrie and of Tyson Gillies have been named to the 2009 MLB Futures Game World rosters to be played at the MLB All Star game in St Louis Busch Stadium

BLAZE WIN BELLINGHAM TOURNAMENT
Two BCPBL teams ended up in the Bellingham Championship where the Blaze defeated the North Shore Twins 6-5 in a back and forth game. RHP Karl Malecek started with rhp Rory Young, rhp Jaymes Proutt in relief and a strong closing performance from rhp Russ Kennedy. Preston Carlile led the Blaze at the plate going 3-3. Wes Darvill in his last game in a Blaze uniform before starting his pro career went 2-3. Dylan Rehmke contributed with a double off the left field wall.

Former Langley Blaze (2008) and first round MLB (16th overall) draft pick, earned the Junior National Team MVP award, sponsored by Disney’s Wide World of Sports, for the second time in three years. Lawrie was the offensive key cog of the Junior National Team at the World Junior Championship in Edmonton, winning the Triple Crown of the tournament batting .469 with three home runs and 16 RBI. He also displayed his power during the Dominican Summer Camp, hitting five home runs in a doubleheader against the Seattle Mariners Dominican team.

Blaze will play 7 of the top Junior College teams in the country at Kino Complex, the spring training facility of the Arizona Diamondbacks and Chicago White Sox in Tucson and then head to Phoenix to play the Milwaukee Brewers, Kansas City Royals, Chicago Cubs and San Fransisco Giants spring training minor league players at their respective big league facilities.

2009 Langley Canada Day Celebrations has been voted Langley's #1 best summer festival in Langley Advance 11th Annual 2008 Readers' Choice Best of the Best Awards and has grown to be the biggest two day event in the Langley's and one of the largest Canada Day celebrations in the province!
The year 2009 celebrations will be its 14th consecutive year! Its family oriented theme includes two days of a continuous stage show, children's rides and games, Crafter's Alley, Vendors’ marketplace, special community exhibits by gymnasts, firefighters, merchants and special community groups as well as live musical entertainment.
Come celebrate our home, our community, our Canada with us!
Langley Canada Day Celebrations: June 30 (3 - 11pm) and July 1 (11am - 11pm), both nights end with fireworks at approx. 10:30pm!
Held at: McLeod Park – 56 Avenue & 216 Street, Langley.
